Stress = Shopping

Wednesday, 1 October 2014

How do you deal with a stressful situation? For some people it's breathing in and out, for others it's counting to 10, for me it's shopping up a storm. That's normal right? Well that's exactly what I did last week after my interview.

The first place I hit up was the Nars beauty counter in Selfridges and bought the highly coveted Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade Amande. Everyone raves about this so I thought it was about time I tried it to see what all the hype is about.

Then because I can't be in a Boots store without buying a nail polish ( I really have to do some about that ) I bought Essie Bikini So Teeny, a pretty cornflower blue with subtle shimmer.

OH but I didn't stop there, whilst in Boots I also repurchased the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara.

To top it off I also placed a cheeky but really essential cult Beauty order for the Oskia Renaissance Mask and the Heal Gel Eye which I had been lusting after for ages and being the skincare junkie that I am, it was only a matter of time before I caved and bought those two products.

Reviews will follow after I have had time to test these products out - but tell me have you been buying anything? Any good purchases? let me know in the comments.

Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss- Flirt

Monday, 15 September 2014

Happy Monday everyone! It's been a while since my last post.
All I can say is writer's block + lack of inspiration = absence. However I'm back now and I am going to be kicking off my blogging return with a review.

A #feelingspendy purchase was made a few months ago totally enabled by the lovely Amelia Liana of course. Ever since Amelia raved about the Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss I was itching to try it so throwing caution to the wind I placed a cheeky Space NK order for the shade Flirt which is a gorgeous sheer orange-coral.

I can't tell you how hard it was to choose a colour online though. My advice - go to Space NK and swatch away.

Let's be real- it's ridiculously expensive..... £26 to be precise and every time I think of the price I feel a bit sick because spending that much on a gloss is unheard of for me and slightly insane but...you know ... I just had to try it out for myself .

This was my first dive into the world of Chantecaille and I must say I am hugely impressed.
Flirt Brilliant Gloss is a non-sticky, moisturising gloss that gives a high-shine finish to the lips. It fees like a balm and once it wears off my lips aren't left feeling dry. I like the brush applicator too which deposits the right amount of product. You can definitely tell it's a luxury product and is superior to any gloss I've tried in the past.

I would love to know- have you tried this? What lip gloss are you loving right now?

What's In My Everyday Makeup Bag?

Monday, 14 April 2014

The foundation of choice right now is the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. The base that everyone and their mum raves about. It's not too hard to see why because it provides a natural and skin-like finish that I just adore. It has a medium coverage that feels light-weight on the skin. Not to mention the smooth texture. Any downsides?  Yes. Luminous Silk accentuates dry areas on my skin and despite the "luminous" name I don't find it to be a dewy foundation. There is a glow but it has mostly a matte finish. Just something to bear in mind. Still I like this foundation for making me look polished which is a very hard thing to do at the crack of dawn . Application wise? My favorite way is to use it with the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and on days when I am running out of the door I slap this base on with my fingers.

The most recent addition to my stash is the Mac Pro Longwear concealer, a medium-coverage concealer that I've been using to cover my dark circles. The colour match is great too which is the main reason why I purchased it. I like to apply it with the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge because it just blends the product into the skin better than using a brush or even using my fingers. My only gripe is that the pump dispenses way too much product which is is such a waste.

On my cheeks I have been reaching for my Nars Torrid Blusher, an oldie but a goodie! I always bust out this bad boy when Spring arrives. A gorgeous coral/pink shade with shimmer that adds a healthy flush of colour to my cheeks. Nars blushers still can't be beat for their beautiful colours, amazing pigmentation and finely milled texture. What's not to love?

I don't always set my makeup with a powder but sometimes I like to do a light dusting of the Mac Mineralise Skinfinish Natural which just gets the job done.

I am not a big eye shadow wearer so lashings and lashings of the Maybelline Rocket Volum' Mascara is required.

For lips, I am loving the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in Suspense.  A soft, creamy offering that is light-weight and hydrating. Love!  Oh and  how beautiful is Chanel packaging? It just exudes glamour. The bright fuschia shade is absolutely stunning too. Is there a more perfect lipstick than Chanel Suspense? I think not.

Have you tried any of these products?

Spring Wishlist

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blusher in Radiant Magenta.
I was on a no blush buy but that soon went of the window after seeing pictures of this stunning blusher. Described as a "golden fuchsia combined with radiant light powder for a Summer glow". How can I resist? The colour alone stole my heart. This is, without a doubt, my favorite beauty release so far this year.

Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay Cologne
It's officially Spring and here I am lusting after an Autumnal scent ... Typical. Mind you I haven't even had a sniff of this yet but it's the scent I'm super excited to try so I better get to a Jo Malone store sharpish!

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl
This gorgeous cherry red lip pencil has been on my wishlist for so long now I think it's just time I bite the bullet and purchase it. The formula is matte but apparently non-drying. Sounds too good to be true but I'm looking forward to giving it a whirl and sporting this stunning shade with minimal makeup.

Essie Angel Food
Now that Winter is over It's time for me to start rocking Spring's lighter and prettier shades. I am still on the hunt for the perfect pale pink nail polish and Essie Angel Food may just be the shade I've been searching for. Fingers crossed the formula is a good'un.

Dior Creme de Rose Smoothing Plumbing Lip Balm.
I am a lip balm junkie and seeing as my Nuxe Reve de Miel is running out (OK its only half empty) it's the perfect time to try a new one. A girl needs to be prepared, right? The price is eye watering expensive for a lip balm so all the Boots points I have been accumulating recently will come in very handy indeed.

What's at the top of your beauty wishlist?

Crazy For Chanel

Friday, 7 March 2014

I popped into Boots for some hair grips and before I knew it I was standing in front of the Chanel counter. How did that happen? Oh Who am I kidding? I could find that counter blindfolded! After ooh-ing and ahh-ing and swatching up a storm I finally settled on the Rouge Coco Shine in "Suspense". A beautiful fuchsia red with shimmer. I am a berry lip kinda girl but this bright fuchsia shade was calling my name. It suits my skin tone beautifully too. Not only is the colour fabulous but the formula of this lippy is ahh-mazing- a soft, creamy offering that is light-weight and feels hydrating on the lips. Winner! Who doesn't love a bit of Chanel eh?

Suspense was released for the Spring 2013 Avant -Premiere de Chanel Collection and was made permanent in the Rouge Coco Shine line which is lucky for me because I wouldn't be able to get my hands on it otherwise. I would describe Suspense as being semi-sheer but build able. This shade lasts a couple of hours on me so not the best staying power however I don't mind whipping out this gorgeous lipstick to reapply makes me feel glamorous, you know? ......Well a girl can dream, right?

I can imagine myself wearing this shade a lot in the warmer months with just tinted moisturizer, a dab of cream blusher and lashings of mascara. Boom. Spring/Summer makeup done.

I love the uber luxe black and gold packaging with the famous logo that will make any girl's heart beat faster. Chanel packaging can't be beat!

Retailing at £24, pricey right? I know, but what can I say? I love me some Chanel! Do I want another one? Hell yes! "Fiction", I'm coming for you.....

My Butter London Collection

Sunday, 9 February 2014

From their amazing colours, to their quirky names and the added bonus that they are a 3-Free company I have fallen in love with Butter London Lacquers. Shhh -don't tell Essie. Here is a quick run-down of the five that I own.

Come To Bed Red - My first Butter London nail polish, and the one that stole my heart, in terms of the formula. It just glides on so effortlessly. Love it. Nothing is more chic than a red mani and this bright true red is a must-have lacquer in my collection. I am also amazed at how a slick of this colour instantly glams up an outfit too.

Primerose Hill Picnic - My favorite out of the bunch! In fact it's giving Essie "Mint Candy Apple"a run for it's money to keep the title of my all-time favorite nail polish. Not only do I love the name, so cute right? But it's the perfect hot pink shade! If I could sum up Summer with one colour it would be this one. This stunning shade instantly makes me happy because one glance at my nails is enough to lift my mood- and you seriously will not be able to stop staring at your nails....yes it's that prettyYou can totally skip the top coat because this lacquer gives your nails a juicy/glossy finish.

Slapper -   This bold, bright teal shade was on my "to buy list" for the longest time and it's not a colour I would typically go for but it's such a unique shade that I had to snap it up. Teal was the  hottest colour to rock in Spring/Summer last year but it's also a shade that can be worn year-round too. This amazingly pigmented hue packs a punch and it's not for the faint-hearted. I like my nail colours to have some oomph and this beauty totally delivers on that.  Remember to apply a base coat first to prevent it from staining your nails.

Teddy Girl - I purchased this in the hopes that it would be better than Essie "Fiji" but it disappointed me too with it's watery and runny consistency. Despite the awful formula this subtle but sophisticated bubblegum pink looks super pretty on the nails.

Fiver - My recent purchase. Being the mint lover I am I just couldn't resist this pale pastel mint green shade. It just spoke to me you know? It applies sheer on the first coat but not to worry because a second coat is all it needs to achieve full opacity. Gorgeous shade for Spring but a colour I will wear all year-round because I am just that obsessed with mint lacquers.

Mac Frankly Scarlet Blusher

Sunday, 12 January 2014

Aaahh ....  Frankly Scarlet is my current blusher love. I haven't had it long mind you but I love it so....how it instantly brightens up my skin and makes me look healthier. It's definitely a nice pick-me up shade for the cold season. A vivid red-rose, that gives me a beautiful flush of colour providing I use a light hand because this isn't a blush you can slap on and go! This is seriously pigmented and on my first attempt I did actually resemble a clown and should know better. I mean my first bold blusher was Nars Exhibit A the mother of all blushers in terms of pigmentation. So to avoid the dreaded clown cheeks I lightly dab my Real techniques stippling brush into the powder and take most of it off on the back of my hand. Then I apply what's left over on my cheeks and then start blending.

It's very flattering on my brown skin tone however lighter skin tones can also pull this off you just have to avoid being heavy handed. As the emphasis is on the cheeks I keep the rest of my makeup simple. One pump of my Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, plenty of mascara and I keep my lips neutral with a slick of the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Rosewood Shimmer.

So what do you think of Frankly Scarlet? Would you ever rock it? Feed my blush addiction by leaving me your recommendations below.

Beauty Buyin'

Saturday, 4 January 2014

Hi guys! Happy new year! Gosh, I can't believe I haven't blogged for such a long time but I have been crazy busy with work, however I am back now and I am going to kick off my blogging return with a collective haul!

The Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm has been at the top of my lust list for the longest time so I finally gave into the blogger hype and placed an order with Space NK for the most talked about cleanser in the blogging world!

I haven't purchased a new perfume for a while and as much as I love discovering new scents I decided to play it safe and purchase one that I previously owned- Christian Dior J'adore.....kinda wished I hadn't now because this floral-fruity scent doesn't smell as great as I remembered it for some reason. Oh well you win some you lose some! Not to worry though because my sisters will use it up as they adore this fragrance.

Another product I have been lusting after is Mac blusher in Frankly Scarlet and I am so glad I finally have this little beaut! I am not one to shy away from a bold blusher and this vivid red shade is right up my street! I haven't worn it yet but I am hoping it will give me a natural rosy flush......well that's the plan or it could go the other way and I'll end up looking like a clown lol! The key is to use a light hand and be gentle with application.

I ran out of my current mascara so I popped into Boots ( I could spend hours in there especially the one in Westfield Shepherd's Bush- best Boots in London!) I picked up the L'Oreal Voluminous mascara as I used to use this back in the day and I don't know why I strayed from it to be honest because it's a great mascara.

Obviously I couldn't go to Boots and not buy a nail polish..... I know I have a problem!  My obsession with Butter London Nail Lacquers is still going strong and the latest one to add to my stash is "Fiver". I just couldn't resist this pale pastel mint green shade which is super pretty but also looks really chic on the nails too.

Right I'm off to use my new EH cleansing balm, slap on a face mask and catch up on some YouTube videos. Let me know what you guys have been buying lately? Any good purchases?
